Allen Meadows was a finance executive for 25 years holding a variety of positions including senior vice president for Great Western Financial where he spear-headed the mergers and acquisitions and specialized finance departments. In 1999 he elected to retire to author a book on the subject of Burgundy, his long-time passion and obsession. The book project evolved to become an extensive quarterly review, Burghound.com. Initially devoted exclusively to the coverage of the wines of Burgundy, it was expanded to include broad coverage of U.S. pinot noir.

Burghound.com was the first of its kind to offer specialized and exhaustive coverage of a specific wine region/grape and pioneered the on-line format. Meadows spends more than four months each year in Burgundy visiting more than 300 domaines.

"I can’t think of a wine critic who commands more trust or respect than Allen Meadows. His palate is as acute and reliable as they come, and his knowledge of Burgundy is unsurpassed. That knowledge is on vivid display in The Pearl of the Côte, a seminal contribution to the literature on Burgundy and a must-read for anyone with a keen interest in the wines and culture of this fabled region. Simply put, Meadows is the critic that Burgundy deserved and that Burghounds everywhere needed." — Mike Steinberger, wine columnist and author
